~ Women and Transwomen

VOLUNTEER MODELS

If you are interested in being a volunteer model in this project, please forward a head shot to girlcrimson.alt@gmail.com and briefly answer the following questions:
1) How is your body "rooted" in the local food system?
2) Do you own any gingham?
3) How will your participation add to the diversity of the project?
4) Have you attended a Girl Crimson show in the past?
5) Do you know someone who has worked with Girl Crimson? If so, who?
6) Why do you want to participate in this project?
7 Do you reside in the Waterloo Region?

(100 words max)

Please note, the head shot does not need to be "professional", any photo will do. Girl Crimson is committed to exploring the inner workings of social constructs such as gender, race, ability, power, oppression and reclamation of the body. Everyone is welcome! Because diversity is key to Girl Crimson's vision, it is important for you to consider how your participation will add to the diversity of the project.

Sessions are very limited - please respond as soon as possible to secure your spot. Consultations take place on Tuesday evenings. Shooting takes place Saturday and Sunday mornings between May and September. RESPOND QUICKLY. The vast majority of the shoots for this project will be outside, on location on Saturday mornings. A degree of mobility is required; however, if you need specific accommodations, please advise Girl Crimson.

Affectionately Yours,

For twelve years the Rainbow Reels Queer Film Festival (QFF) has worked hard to increase awareness of queer, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues by showcasing projects from new and
emerging film-makers. They are one of the most recognizable film festivals in South-Western Ontario, bringing in attendees from Kitchener-Waterloo, London, Hamilton, Guelph and Windsor. The festival is a project of the Waterloo Public Interest Research group and has been since 2000. What started up as a small student-run event, screening films at the University of Waterloo, has since expanded and grown into an important community-wide event.

Thank You!

There is a lot that goes into putting a show together and the weeks and days leading up to a show tend to be pretty chaotic and filled with late nights and long days.  In the days following a show, I find I am filled with intense restlessness and feel a little lost and uncertain of how to fill my time.

The best part about having a show is actually getting to connect directly with my audience.   Thank you to everyone who took the time to communicate with me about the show.  It means a great deal to me to receive your feedback and to know the ways in which the work impacts you as an audience.

One woman, while flipping through my photo books at Cliterature 2012, noted "this work says more about YOU than it does about the women in the photos"

I paused and felt exposed.

"How so?"

"All of these women trust you and are open to you - it's profound."

It means a great deal to me to share this with my community and to provide a safe space for women to explore beauty, power, sexuality and gender.  Women are not always safe to explore such things.  There is so much more that happens in our time together than what you see in the final image.   In fact, the image is a really really small part of what happens in our time together.

Thank you for your continued support of my vision.

This work is healing me.

On The Body ::: Official Release

On The Body is a simplistic exploration of the complexities within eroticism; an exposition of desire through the forms, shapes, and languages of the body.  The Artist seeks to challenge traditional understandings of sex, art and femininity.

The Artist pushes limits with this work and as such, viewers should be prepared to feel the expansion of boundaries and the development of new understandings of cultural narratives related to gender and sex.  The Artist challenges normative expectations of what beautiful bodies look like, how bodies respond to pleasure, how desire is expressed, how power and intimacy are negotiated, and how consent manifests in different narratives of pleasure.  These culturally and socially constructed boundaries are explored and brought to question through a number of themes - all of which take place On the Body.
